Congratulations to the Varsity Flag team for placing 2nd in the Tall Flags division and Libby Lewis for placing 3rd in the solo competition at the Illinois Drill Team Association (IDTA) State Competition this past Saturday in Springfield.
The IDTA competition is held annually for high school drill teams. Teams compete in various categories, such as Poms, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tall Flags, Kick, Lyrical Flags, etc. Nearly 100 teams competed this year and nearly 60 soloists during the regional competitions. Only teams/soloists that earn a state qualifying score advance to the state competition.
The flag team competed at the Dunlap Regional competition in December in the Tall Flags Division where they earned a state qualifying score in their first ever IDTA competition. Libby competed in two Regionals and earned a qualifying score at her second competition. Qualifying soloists go on to compete in the preliminary round and only the top 10 advance to the finals.

This year’s production of Big Fish is filled with thrilling, larger-than-life stories, as told by traveling salesman, Edward Bloom. Besides giants, mermaids, witches and circus acts, the show also features a star-spangled USO Show with a tap dance number choreographed by local actress/dancer/choreographer, Tamra Challacombe, and a live orchestra under the direction of Dunlap High School band director, Jill Potts.
Dunlap High School is known for their quality productions in all genres of theatre. This year’s production is the largest in “Stage 323” history with over 70 students in the cast. Add to that the backstage crews and student orchestra, and there are around 120 students involved in the production. Title roles are played by Nathan Cuizon as Edward Bloom, Libby Lewis as Sandra Bloom, Adam Raso as Will Bloom and Srishti Srivastava as Josephine.
